The Fishermen got back on track against bottom of the table Hawick Royal Albert on Saturday, with gaffer Carl Hudson hailing their 4-1 victory “a nice comeback.” Brazilian Thiago Ferreira came back into the side in midfield and Eyemouth looked a more disciplined outfit after last week’s disappointing result at Ormiston. The Fishermen took the lead within the opening five minutes; a nice through ball down the left of the pitch came to Thiago Ferreira, who played in Andrew Sword. Sword hit a left footed shot that went into the bottom corner of the Hawick goal. Eyemouth lead fairly comfortably, doubling their tally after a tremendous run by stand in full-back Andrew Hastie, who squared the ball for Sean Simpson to make it 2-0. Hudson then brought Mark Windram into the middle of the park to “steady the ship”, before Hawick had an excellent chance to half the deficit but Dean Avery in the Eyemouth goal denied the visitors with a great stop on the line. Hawick did half Eyemouth’s lead early in the second half, Dean Avery failed to hold Jody Easdon’s free kick and the ball found its way into the back of the net. The home side were rattled and lapsed into a period of sloppy play, giving silly free kicks away. But it was the Fishermen who bagged the next goal, going up the other end to strengthen their lead. Scott Adamson squared back to Sean Simpson who made it 3-1. Eyemouth should have banged the last nail into the coffin minutes later when everyone bar the referee saw a Stuart Coyle shot cross the line, but much to the seasiders’ disbelief it wasn’t given. Eyemouth did make it four right on the final whistle when Scott Adamson crossed to Thiago Ferreira, who deservedly got onto the score sheet, firing into the top corner. This was an important three points for Eyemouth who, with games in hand on most teams in the First Division, still have potential to climb up the table. After the Fishermen’s disappointing turn out last week, manager Carl Hudson was pleased with the performance. “All in all it was a nice comeback, it was good to get back on balance,” he said. “We seemed to be a bit more disciplined this week in the middle of the park this week. Thiago Ferreira came back into the picture and had a good game. We had a bit of an off spell early in the second half,” Hudson admitted. “We’re prone to not starting very well in the second half and we restarted a bit mediocre, giving a lot of the ball away. But we came through it and I was pleased with the result. We can beat anyone if we play to our abilities,” Hudson insisted. |
