| Eyemouth United picked up an away point in this lively and entertaining game, but perhaps should of taken three after leading by two goals in the first half. With just six minutes gone, Eyemouth broke the deadlock with the simplest of goals when James Wilson cashed in on some dreadful marking by sticking away an Alan Jess cross. The Fishermen then doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Jess sent over a corner kick and Mark Windram steered the ball into the net with his head, while the home defence watched flat-footed. Leading by two goals midway through the first period it looked as though Eyemouth were heading for their second win of the 2009-10 campaign, but on 26 minutes the Royalists reduced the leeway. And it was Gavin Watson – who Albert manager David Halfpenny decided to play up front instead of his normal spot in goal – who pinpointed the way. A Luke Cooper corner brought about a scramble in the Eyemouth goalmouth and goal stopper Watson turned goal scorer by prodding the ball home from close range. Two minutes later, Hawick snatched an equaliser when Steven Noble headed a well-flighted Ross Wallace free kick out of the reach of Eyemouth keeper Dean Avery. The flow of the game had now changed dramatically. Revitalised Albert had their tails up and Watson came close to notching another. With a minute of the second half gone however, the Royalists did get a third, Kevin Patterson supplying the goods in stabbing away a Watson pass. The quick silver pace of the game dropped for a while after this but came alive again in the 59th minute when Carl Hudson’s men fought back to get on level terms through Sean Simpson. Within minutes of this a header from a Hawick corner hit the crossbar. Avery then did well to keep his goal intact with a splendid one-handed save from a Watson header, following a Darren Murphy free kick. |
