| A brace from Eyemouth midfielder James Wilson helped the Fishermen into the second round, however they had to come from behind twice in order to do so. Ormiston created the better off the early chances, Dean Avery tipping away a Jason Young strike. The visitors took the lead after only ten minutes. A free kick into the box was nodded on to Jordan McKenzie who volleyed the ball high into the net. Eyemouth replied well with Duncan Aitchison’s header find Andrew Sword, but the keeper was more than a match to Sword’s volley, tipping it over the bar. However Sword got the better of Cadger on 17 minutes, cutting in from the left wing and placing a shot beyond the reach of the Ormiston keeper and into the bottom right corner. Midway through the half Ormiston almost re-took the lead. Alan Speirs headed a Jordan McKenzie cross onto the underside of the bar. The ball bounced off the line before being cleared and despite the claims from the visitors that it had crossed the line; the referee was unimpressed and waved away their protests. Eyemouth came out refreshed in the second half and piled the pressure onto Ormiston. Duncan Aitchison’s stinging shot being held by Cadger and Alan Jess smashing a shot across the face of the goal. However despite this pressure it was Ormiston who took the lead. Craig Smith’s cross-found Jason Young in the box and he directed the ball into the bottom corner. The lead only lasted a minute as Eyemouth made the perfect response, James Wilson’s free kick eluding the goalkeeper and nestling in the bottom corner. The chances swung from end to end and Ormiston were handed the perfect chance to take the lead for a third time after Scott Agnew handled in the box. Craig Fisher stepped up to take the penalty but the ball struck the post and away to safety. The winning goal came after 76 minutes and was one of quality. Johnny Simpson nodded Dean Avery’s goal kick on into the path of James Wilson who allowed the ball to bounce once before unleashing an unstoppable volley into the top corner via the crossbar. The game was far from over yet as Dean Avery mid an excellent fingertip save to deny Graham Nisbet from forcing extra time. At the other end it was Cadger in action, tipping an Alan Jess shot round the post. |
