Match Report

Eyemouth United slumped to a disappointing defeat at the hands off Ormiston on Tuesday night. It was the visitors who opened the scoring on 15 minutes. Craig Smith slid the ball into the path of Jordan McKenzie in the area and he slipped the ball underneath Dean Avery and into the net. At the other end, Eyemouth were struggling to trouble the Ormiston keeper. James Wilson turn and shot from and Alan Jess cross and Scott Agnew’s header from a Michael Wales free kick both sailed over the bar. Andrew Sword came closest for the Fishermen in the first half. Johnny Simpson cleverly played the ball forward to Sword who fired the ball goalwards but Cadger was on hand to block the ball. The second half started far better for Eyemouth, Johnny Simpson turn and shot from 20 yards out being held by Paul Cadger. The early second half pressure soon paid off as the home side drew level. Ormiston failed to clear the ball from a free kick and Michael Wales nodded it forward into the path of Thiago Ferreira, who coolly placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Despite gaining a foothold in the game, Eyemouth failed to capitalise on the momentum and it was Ormiston who looked more dangerous in front of goal. Dean Avery made an excellent stop at the feet of Jordan McKenzie as the visitors looked for a winner. There chances were improved on 77 minutes when Sean Simpson was sent off for a second bookable offence. And the visitors took full advantage of this as a minute later they sealed the three points, Scott Mayberry diverting the ball into the net from a deep cross.
